Develop 12 Yearbook Pages/Sections

Yearbook Coverage:
The major part of our course is yearbook coverage. Creating a compelling yearbook page requires dedication to present when events happen, have technical skills to capture great photos and develop the printed product and an inquisitive mind to interview and research the stories we want to share with the future.

Project Overview:
Our yearbooks are roughly 240 pages with about 140 pages of content being generated by staff. All staff are required to develop enough coverage to complete the entire yearbook... the amount of work this requires will change with the number of staff in the program. Roughly divided among an average class size this means each staff member is responsible for 10-12 pages of content.

    Part A: Page Assignments
    • Work with your Yearbook Advisor to get pages assigned.
    • Cover subjects and events that are interesting to you, but also cover subjects you aren't vested in so we can have equitable coverage.
    • Each student should have roughly 10-12 pages/sections assigned for the yearbook to be successful, more may be required as staff numbers change over the year.

    Part B: Page Editing
    • Edit your pages by adding a template.
    • Modify the template to use the designated color palette.
    • Modify the template to use the designated fonts.
    • Keep the page clean and organized with an easy to see title and subject headers

    Part C: Coverage / Photos
    • You will receive training in camera use during this course and cameras are provided.
    • You may use your own mobile device to capture images for use in YB pages.
    • Be on site when the event is happening with enough storage on your SD card and a fresh battery. Don't let equipment issues get in the way of recording history!
    • Backup your images after each shoot and upload to the yearbook database asap each day.
    • Upload and move images into their appropriate categories for use by all.
    • Take care of the equipment and turn it in for someone else to use when finished.

Part D: Coverage / Copy and Interviews
    • You will/may need to venture out to conduct interviews for your yearbook page.
    • Yearbook coverage strives to be fair, inclusive and equitable in our coverage.
    • Research ideas for stories or interview questions before interviews begin, be prepared.
    • Record interviews with audio for later transcription... this makes the process fast, easy and accurate.

Part E: Page Proofing and Approval
    • Use tools to check spelling... strive for zero errors.
    • Double-check names for everyone listed...  no one likes to see their name misspelled.
    • Have at least 3 people proof your page before submitting.
    • When you are done editing your page get approval from your Advisor before submitting.

Don't be afraid to make your pages un-conventional...
